Kia ora,
Nō Ōtepoti ahau. Kei te mahi ahau ki te Wharekura i Puketai. He tangata tiriti ahau.
I have been working in education for 15 years. During this time, I have had the pleasure of teaching tamariki in primary schools across the South Island and the privilege of working alongside teachers and schools as a Reading Recovery and Early Literacy Support Facilitator in Otago and Canterbury. This specialist role strengthened my ability to closely observe children, recognise their strengths and understandings, and work alongside teachers to develop tailored teaching and learning opportunities that support and strengthen children’s literacy.
I currently teach new entrant children at Andersons Bay School in Dunedin and am passionate about ensuring that children and their whānau experience a positive and successful transition from early childhood into primary education.
I am proud to be a member of the Otago Literacy Association committee, a dedicated team working together to create valuable literacy opportunities for teachers and children across the Otago region, and to deliver a fabulous NZLA Conference in 2027.
I look forward to continuing to contribute to literacy advocacy, professional learning and opportunities that make a meaningful difference for tamariki and kaiako across Aotearoa.
Ngā mihi,
Erin Day
