Understanding and Supporting Young Writers: Draw, Talk, Write, Share

Draw, Talk, Write, Share (DTWS) is a dynamic evidence-based approach that emphasises the importance of drawing, talking and writing as overlapping meaning-making processes. Join Noella to hear how this pedagogical approach engages and supports young writers to express their ideas, develop vocabulary and oral language skills, and apply their phonics and word knowledge. Noella will offer insights and strategies that can be seamlessly implemented in the classroom, nurturing young writers and laying a strong foundation for literacy.

Noella is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Education at Charles Sturt University, NSW, Australia and a Senior Fellow with the Australian Literacy Educators Association (ALEA). She has worked extensively with teachers, education advisers and students in schools in Australia and internationally and is in demand as a keynote speaker at conferences. Noella’s research focuses on literacy teaching and learning and in particular writing acquisition. She has co-edited three books, written numerous invited chapters and published many papers in professional and research journals.
